I had a '79 528i that ate a few slave cylinders, and I never found any evidence of a leak, but you're probably right as I can't see how they can leak internally.

I have never heard of an internal leak in a clutch slave. Brake masters leak internally because there are actually two different sections, one for front, and one for rear. They leak between the sections. >I think that both slave and master can leak internally, but low fluid >does indicate an external leak.
