First off, our baby - who as I intimated here was going to be born with a
birth defect - is doing well. She came 10 weeks early which obviously added
a whole new set of problems. But the defect (which is survivable and in fact
probably will allow a normal healthy life) is actually getting better
unexpectedly.

Okay, Mercedes stuff:

I see by my email archives that I reported my 83 240D's clutch problem last
May. And it sat in the garage since that problem started. I gave thought to
selling it. Never wanted to.

Recently I had to move it so a new garage door opener could be installed.
Wasn't sure if I would have to tow it out or if I could start it. Battery
was dead. But after allowing it to take a jump from another vehicle while I
pumped up the tires with my bicycle pump... It started no problem! First try
(well, second try if you count the one where the battery was still not
charged up enough) it started pretty easily.

The fact that it could sit all winter and not present starting problems
impresses me. That along with encouraging news about our baby's progress
(though still in Intensive Care) has me in the mindset of keeping the 240
like I wanted to.

As for the clutch problem: Adding fluid makes it operate pretty normally for
a while. Then gradually the pedal needs to be depressed farther to do its
job. Then it doesn't do its job. Anyone care to offer thoughts on most
likely problem?
