Yes, file the ends into a wedge shape - about a 45 degree diagonal on the inside, so the unlocking tool/pins can ride up onto the spring-loaded locking mechanism(s) in the tumbler cylinder and push them inward as the unlocking tool is inserted. A blunt end on the unlocking tool/pins can get hung up on an obstruction and not push the locking pins inward.
