Does it have the tensioner adjuster to tighten up the belt? On my 79TD there are no bolts actually holding the alternator, this tensioner adjusts the alternator in/out to get the belt tight.

The other thing to check is the belt itself, but I am thinking the tensioner, if it has one.

My son (he's in Austin TX, I'm in Vancouver, WA) called last night and said
that his 1980 4 spd. 240D alternator belt has inexplicably loosened in just
a few days without any of the bolts being loose. Have any of you ever
experienced anything like this? Or have a good guess how this could happen?
Suggest a cheap possible repair?

TIA,

Greg
