If SWMBA is not willing to help you get the sort of new car that appeals to you then she ought not to object to you having what you want in an older model even if it needs some effort. I tell my wife all the time that it makes no real sense for me to have the kind of vehicles that I want when they are new. My truck would have been very expensive when new and it is a truck. I don't want to have to worry about the odd scratch etc. A truck is supposed to be used. I also do not put huge numbers of miles on annually so it makes little difference if my vehicle is new or not. Mine normally rust away before I wear them out.

I wouldn't mind having a new MB but I would have to work much harder and spend much more time in my office to cover the monthly payments and the additional insurance etc. It just does not make much sense to me. I think my old MB looks good and I like my 10 year old truck. My wife prefers newer vehicles but she is prepared to drive something that is less expensive when newer. We got her a year old Honda Accord when her Toyota got wrecked and she is still very happy with it.

The same thing applies to other toys like boats. I go to the boat show every year and drool on the new boats but have no intention of paying $50K for a boat. I don't use it enough to justify that kind of investment. Boats, in my mind, are not supposed to have interiors like nice cars. When a fish starts flopping around on the floor, I don't want to worry about the carpet.

I have my old project boats and I am happy.
