Gerry,
I use Bounce Fabric Softener Sheets to remove Love Bugs.
Wet the bug infected area and the sheet start wiping.
It will take some elbow grease to get the one that are
baked on but they will come off and it's safe on paint and wax.
I also treat my windshield with Rainex it keeps the little buggers from
sticking. Some ppl around here use Pam Cooking spray on the nose of
the car to prevent them from sticking. A friend of mine tried it
and saw no difference in ease of removal.

Russ W.
Keeping an eye out for the little buggers who are just starting to show up here.

That's what I was afraid of about using the volatile based products.
Too bad the water based adhesive didn't work.

Love bug season has started in the this area and north of here. What's the best way to clean them off the windshield, grill, fenders, etc. without removing
the wax coating?

For those unfamiliar with love bugs, they are little black insects that congregate on roads in the summer in southern states by the millions and splatter on your windshield, grill, and other parts of your car as you drive. They fly around in
pairs; hung together in a mating stance; hence the name love bugs.
Their scientific name is: Plecia nearctica.

The best way to identify them precisely is to watch very closely, and just before
they hit your windshield, you can see a smile on their little faces.

There is 8090 and 8088 if I recall correctly.
One is heavy duty and the other is just "general", which I assume would not be heavy duty. Wicked stuff. Just be sure to cover up well, as it is like brake fluid when it gets on paint. The second it touches paint the surface is destroyed.
Don't ask me how I know....

I have a can of 3M Super Trim Adhesive #08090. Could that be it?
Also have a can of 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive.
When I attached the soundproofing the first time, with the hood open I
draped a large sheet of plastic over the whole front end of the car and
pushed it up over the wipers and windshield. It looks like that arrangement would pretty well protect the finish from overspray, so I feel more secure about using an adhesive that has volatile solvents that might damage the
paint.

After consulting the web on a good nights sleep, it's 3M 90 spray adhesive
that you'll be looking for.

Sadly, I don't know a brick and mortar store that for sure sells it...

Snip.
Got to set the trap. Need a new rabbits foot.

I have 2 sets, still attached to the wabbits!

Much more fun that way, even if the little buggers chew the carpet. :P

I'd try 3M spray adhesive, they make one that will bond most anything to
most anything, but I forget the actual number...
