Folks,
Well i drove my 82 300td from Athens, GA to the Tampa area to pick up
a 1000 lb letterpress (dragging a trailer)
I left Wednesday afternoon and ran 70 most of the innerstate way, dow
I-75 (running on SVO). I stayed in a motel in Palm Harbor, not cheap,
but not too bad.
I picked up the machine Thursday afternoon and also ended up getting a
400 lb paper cutter, 5 gals of blanket wash and 5 gals of 90 wt
transmission dope, 7 type cases full of type and a couple of baskets
of letterpress furniture (wood blocks), a 75 lb electric motor, etc.
etc, so i had a pretty good load. Don't forget i was already hauling
probably 40 gals of grease so i could make the return trip.
Basically the car was pretty hoarded up, about to the ceiling.
I was then invited to stay with some friends in St. Petersburg for an
additional night, so i put off my return till Friday. We ate some
indian food and messed around St. Pete, etc, so i didn't make my
departure till rush hour about 4 pm friday.
The trip was slower with the load. I ran about 60 to 65, but after i
had run a few hours, things wanted to speed up.
Around Valdosta, GA, i noticed a slight reduction in power so i
changed a fuel pre-filter and things perked right up. All was good.
I made it up to Macon to take the 2 to 3 lane lane portion back to
athens.
I wrote this part late friday night:
i made it back relatively uneventfully BUT i saw a bunch of deer on
the last 90 miles from macon to athens .... like a dozen
the last herd of four or five of them was north of madison, ga,
standing in the middle of the road and so i slowed way
down .......they froze....then the scattered some going in front of
the car, some behind and one one of them crashed into my driver's side
window
and smashed class all over me
i have a good guardian angel
i'm fine ...car is not even dented or scratched
that's the third deer i've hit with that car
also broke the mirror glass which was already cracked
we have the parts
i'm still shaking
end of the old report
OK, so yesterday, we replaced the driver's glass and changed the oil.
I have a used bare mirror glass for the outside mirror. What is the
best way to attach that to the mirror unit?
thanks,
xx rick
