I'll go back and look at mine. I don't think there is any bottom part to it - the insert with the tools is one piece, not two.

I was looking at a VIN decoder for my S500, and I happened to see in
the accessory parts section a tank that could be installed over the
spare tire, or so it would seem.

I looked the part up in the EPC and it comes up as a tank for around
$100 or so.

I know they used to sell tanks for the diesels that would go in the
spare tire well to extend the car's range, but I find it difficult to
imagine they would sell a tank holding gasoline in this area.
