Went to Cal yeaterday to get the Beetle (daughter child is off to the U.K.).
Drove the 300D over and SHMBO and the boy-child, with his bright, shiny new
permit, followed me back. They got 48mpg, I got 22mpg.
The Bug is retchingly gross dirty. I can't describe it. She is going to get the
riot act read to her when she returns...and, unless I cool off a bit by then,
she may not even get the car back.
Right now I'm fighting the urge to just take this rolling dump to someone and
let them detail it. However, I'm sure I should just do it myself.
So then...what is the best:
carpet cleaner
upolstery cleaner
any other detailing helps/tricks/stuff.

Thanks

Chris,

According to Nitske's book, 17,037 190E 2.3 16 Valves were built from
1983-1988 in two forms, one for US and the other for Europe. It was
primarily produced w/a 5 speed, altho there are some automatics
around, but performance is greatly reduced.
They were only available in Smoke Silver/Black and Pearl Black/Black.

Primary difference - euro model had 185 hp (3.07 rear), US model had
167 hp (3.27 rear and detuned for emissions reduction). It has a
pneumatic self-leveling suspension (spheres in rear) that can get
dicey and expensive to fix. Engine also has some parts unique to the
16V. In March 1989, about 500 "Evolution" models were built for
competition racing in Europe w/a short stroke engine that put out
some 300+ HP........

I've driven several and they are a kick, particularly on a track
where they really show off. I'm still looking for one, but have
narrowed my search to Smoke Silver only. Black/black in AZ - NOT!
