When the worthless little reverse lamps under the bumper of my '75 Civic finally rusted and fell off, I thought about getting a pair of 55w clear fog lamps to replace them. Now that fog lights are about $15 a set, it's actually quite feasible if you want underbumber back-ups. I saw some little self-contained prefocused 55w 12v halogen lamps at Menard's last week for about a buck apiece, I think they were replacement bulbs for low voltage track lights, size MR16. They'd make strong back-up lamps if you could get housings to mount them in.
