No, this is definitely an activator. I wasn't positive at first, but I applied 12V and one way it unlocks, the other way it locks. It's a solid piece of equipment. Whereas those vacuum pods take like 5seconds to lock or unlock, this goes CLUNK and rams the thing up or down with some force...
I'm pretty sure it's a MB part, but as I recall it looks like someone tried making some sort of bracket to hold it. So I'm betting it's been retrofitted. Unless there's some other automaker out there using vacuum diaphragms with solenoids for the locks...
