Great way to make an ultraeconcomy car into something that
never got over 35mph as long as I drove it. (never much
under 35mpg either, highway and city were about the same)
I can't remember if the GM powerglide was auto or semi-auto,
but I think it was semi like my Honda.

The powerglide is fully automatic. GM did make a two speed based on the powerglide that needed to be manually shifted. The name of that unit escapes me but I'm sure it will come to me soon enough. It may have been called Torque Drive. I had a Desoto 1951 that needed the clutch on initial take-off then manually shifted with no clutch thereafter. I paid $15.00 for that car.
