Valves need to be checked every 15kmi (I checked them every fall, before really cold weather). They need to be checked COLD (engine not run for 6-8 hours) and for your engine, intake valve clearance is 0.1 mm (0.15 if temps could drop below zero F) and exhaust valves should have 0.35 mm clearance. When checking the valves, chain stretch needs to be measured. If chain stretch exceeds about 5-6 degrees, the chain needs to be replaced to correct valve and injection pump timing (it's unlikely to snap before stretch reaches 8-10 degrees).
