How do we know that the batteries in all of those cars were DEAD?

So this is the one I got on Amazon. It also has USB ports as well as
adapters to charge laptops etc. it is very handy and will jump a diesel.
I used it at a customers lot once and it jumped about a dozen completely
dead cars without a problem.

That's certainly a possibility. I don't know if the battery minders are
expected to just keep the plates from deteriorating or to actually keep
it at full charge.
I'll look at it more closely tonight. I had the original battery on the
charger overnight. Glowed and fired right up this morning. I'm waiting
to see if it starts at the end of the day today. Hopefully the drive in
to work with a good stretch of 10 miles at highway speeds helped.

Haven’t put the MB battery in, as when I attempted to use it to jump
the
car, it did nothing. I’ve had it on a battery tender for some time,
so I’m
not sure what level of charge I should expect it to have.
When I bought the Cessna, the battery had been on an aircraft battery
minder, and was reported to be good. I got the minder with the deal.
When I
finally got the aircraft ready to start, I checked the battery, and
found
it dead. I have no idea how long it had been on the "battery minder",
but
the plates had turned into fine flakes.
