Now don't get me wrong, I don't want you folks sneaking up here and hauling
our old cars South, but not all Canadian cars are rusty. I bought a 76 300D
locally last summer and it is not rusty. I believe it has had a fairly
sheltered life.

There are some areas where cars do get rather rusty and often very quickly.
Eastern Ontario and Quebec come to mind immediately. The Maritime provinces
may not be a whole lot better. The amount of snow and especially the amount
of salt used on the roadways is the usual cause for concern. The prairies
(Manitoba, Saskatechewan and Alberta) and British Columbia are relatively
better. The prairies are often too cold for salt to be useful and not as
much is used. Unfortunately, cities often use quite a bit in intersections.
Coastal BC is more temperate. It is common to see old cars in nice condition
in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Owners of such generally know what the car
can be sold for however and it is not easy to get a great deal. One also has
to look out for vehicles that have been transplanted from another area of
the country. A friend has a 74 240D that he brought in from BC. It is a
basket case of rust. I doubt that it spent it's whole life in BC. I suspect
it may have lived it's early life in Eastern Ontario.
