Well, I don't know what gravitational effects the alignment of the sun and moon have on the Earth's crust, but there will be another total solar eclipse visible in the US in April of 2024. It just so happens that the two eclipse(s) cross paths directly over the New Madrid fault. You have a degree in rocks. Will there be any tectonic activity because of that? An 8.something shaker along the New Madrid fault would make a mess. There are no nearby mountain ranges to attenuate the shaking. It would (will) be pretty catastrophic.
