Anyone have any thoughts on what caused the big run up in diesel prices lately? I know that the price of oil has gone up, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the gasoline price as much, at least not here in Auburn. Diesel now costs around $0.30/gallon more than premium unleaded, which is quite ridiculous.

Where I live, (Pennsylvania) I pay a 13 cent premium tax (over gasoline) to buy diesel. About half of that premium goes to the Feds and half to PA. Diesel contains MORE energy than gasoline and with refining costs now representing a much smaller percentage of the total cost of fuel today (with oil at $60/barrel vs when oil was less than $20/barrel) the value of a gallon of diesel is worth MORE than a gallon of gasoline and the price reflects it.
