I'm kind of like that too...I'm not afraid of heights as long as I can keep one foot on the ground.
I had a tough time of it when I worked as a steamfitter-rigger on a powerhouse in the Hudson Valley across the river from West Point. As a member of the "bull gang" I often had to climb ladders like that with a chain fall over my shoulders to hook up to a beam...crawling out on the beam to get it in the right spot. I did become somewhat desensitized, but never liked it.
