No qnap experience but my Synology boxes are all still ok. I had one disk failure on a ds211j that coincided with a power cut before I put everything on ups. I would look for a possible external cause for your qnap problems. Two fails is too many. I'm using Apc smartups on my systems (from excessups). Cheap ups don't work well with my standby generator which puts out over 63 hz at low load.
