Sort of true.  My little sister got herself a volvo wagon XC to haul her kids.  
She drove that into the ground.  The last years of the car were utter neglect 
because she had to drive out of MT, across ID and into WA to find a service 
provider any time something would go wrong.  She ended up letting it go for 
$100 trade in on her CPO Yota UTE, as there was no value left in the thing.  
She had hoped to get $1k.  Yeah, that was not going to happen.  The thing was a 
driving parts car that would have been revivable back in SEA for some kid with 
a wrench and desire for the prancing Alces Alces.
