There are multi fit serpentine belt tools available. Do they work on
Mercedes?

It is different, but easy once you understand.
I think either a 10mm or 13mm socket to get the connections off the back.
You'll need a 17mm socket, maybe with a good long wrench or breaker bar, to
get the alternator mounts loose.

reman alternator here fast enough for the weekend to swap it with Sam so
that’s why I opted to drive without working alternator but the alternator
arrived today so we will probably just swap it after all. I’ve never done
this job in a w124 and I’ve never worked with a serpentine belt either. Any
tips on doing this job? I’m not planning on replacing the belt, just
loosening it to R and R the alternator.
