I read an article earlier today that talked about the roles of who decides if a death is counted as COVID or not. The Doctor signs the death certificate, and that is the official cause of death, and I'm sure Karl is right in that the vast majority are doing the right thing and making the best call they can.
The disconnect happens when the county / state report up their numbers to the CDC, because they are under no obligation to use the cause of death listed on the certificate. They follow the CDC guidelines, which don't even require a positive test for WRD (Wuhan Red Death) and so there is plenty of opportunity to steer the numbers. FL is accused of under-reporting, and NY is accused of over-reporting. As usual, we've got the best government that money can buy, and as a result the "official" numbers are not really trusted by anybody, making a reasonable debate very difficult to have.
