I've just been thinking about this also.

I have an Echo 2-stroke weed eater that I paid a decent amount for. It's been
endlessly troublesome, I think because I don't use it enough. I think if you
are a lawn service and using them every day they are probably fine. I spend 20
minutes getting it running and praying it will stay running every time I use
it. I've had similar issues with my Lawn Boy 2-stroke push mower. I've had it.

I bought an Atlas (Harbor Freight) electric push mower in the spring, and been
happy with it. I use it for mowing small areas that the riding mower doesn't
reach.

Last week I bought an Atlas 18" chain saw (uses the same battery) and it made
quick work of about 4 dead trees I've been meaning to cut. Not huge trees, but
not saplings either. Probably about 4-6" diameter. Cut them like butter.

I'm convinced that with the latest generation of batteries, it finally is
making sense for the homeowner to switch. I'm planning to buy the Atlas weed
wacker next. It's nice that they all use the same battery. So far I only have
one battery and it's been enough.

Note that I don't necessarily think this is good advice for commercial use, or
very frequent use. Ultimately I think gas engines have more power and of course
will run all day, and the build quality of pro-grade equipment is definitely
higher than what you get at Harbor Freight.

But for me, who uses these a handful of times a year, it seems to make sense.
