Howdy -
I still have a idle problem - when driving and I let of the accelerator to stop for a light or whatever my idle will drop to ~450-500rpm for a few seconds before stabilizing.

The WSM has a variety of things that might help. There's a connection next to the battery with a little cover - when the cover comes off there a pin connection numbered 1 thru 8. It's mentioned on p18 of 07.1-0010 and shown as X92 on p19. There's a sketch of it with test probbes in 3 ports -

What I need to know is - where can I get the diagnostic thingie to read the fault codes? It's mentioned on p18. The test connector is called X92 or X11/4. It seems to be more a wiring rig than a electronic gadget (I think).

Anyway, I'm still reading all 89 page of this section but there are definately more inputs for the idle speed than on the W123 cars. There's a flywheel speed sensor which also provides input to the ELR/ARA Control Unit (N8/1) or the Electronic Idle Speed Control Unit (N8) and an actuator (Y22) maintains constant idle rpm irrespective of engine load.

It take some concentration to understand it as they mix gas and diesel systems as well as W140/W126/W201/W124 models - as well as years and nationalities so it's taking me a while to understand what I'm reading. Anyway, I need the test thing ;-)
