I'll bite, what's the harm in turning the engine in the wrong direction...
Probably no actual harm done, though the usual warning is about timing chains jumping a tooth, etc. The real problem is that all the slack ends up on the wrong side of measurements, and whatever you're measuring ends up worthless.
