I think he's saying you just place a ridiculously high maximum bid,
knowing that ebay will only bid up until you are the high bidder, or
you reach your maximum, whichever happens first.

However if someone else is playing the same game, and you happen to
still come out on top, then you've really put yourself in a bind.

I wouldn't try it, myself.  It's just a car, another will come along
soon enough if you don't get this one.
