I kill the new load before it dies, but yes, the throttle opens all the way, and the speed goes down, and everything plugged into the genny (except the computer, which has UPS downstream of the genny) experiences brownout. If a refrigeration unit bogs the genny on startup, it will usually kick itself off after a few seconds. On thing to watch out for is overrated engines. I have heard of a lot of lawnmower type engines that dyno far below their labeled HP, and would bet that genny engines do it too.
