I agree. The real issue is that to be effective, the rustproofing must penetrate every seam in the car body & it's just not possible with a spray on coating.
The best rust proofing comes from the factory. They start with coated steel for the body panels then the complete bodies go through a bath that coats 100% of the inside & outside of the body panels with primer before paint. Problem is, neither of these two methods in wide spread use until the late 80s.
