Been using a $350 Coleman/Briggs&Stratton 11hp 5kw for 20+ years.
Would probably pay $600-700 today.
Replaced the spark plug 2-3 times, broke the rope on the recoil start
once, had to take the starter apart again last year and clean/lube it
when it didn't want to retract properly and the rope jammed. Either I'm
getting older or it's getting harder to start, but once started it keeps
going, as long as you're willing to refuel it every 3 hours (small engine
mounted fuel tank). The carb has never been off it and the ignition has
never been messed with. It got used infrequently, but 16 hours a day when
it was needed. Back in the 1980s a power failure might last a week, now
it's almost never more than 10 hours.
Now it's surplus. It's been replaced by an automated air cooled propane
engine 7kw Generac Guardian ($1500).

Mitch.
