I'd agree in principle. In fact there's already a group, alt.autos.mercedes I think. However for some reason I just don't read USENET anymore. Or web forums. Too many different places, too little time I guess. Email lists, while definitely old-school technically, keep everything in one place -- my Inbox. I use a good mail reader (Gnus in Emacs) so thread management is good and I can pretty easily ignore threads that get boring or veer off to something I'm not interested in.
