The insurance adjusters work for the insurance company and their job is to
pay out as little as possible.

I've done my rounds with them and it's never fun. One adjuster wanted the
body shop to bondo a hood on a less than one year old Lebaron Coupe and he
would not back off until the body shop explained that the labor & bondo was
going to exceed the cost of the part. Another adjuster low balled me on the
same car when it was totaled 8 months later.

Their favorite "customer" is someone who just totaled his only
transportation. They know that you need to get clear of the car ASAP and
they price accordingly.

Insurance adjusters are worse than life insurance salesman.

Subject: Re: [MBZ] met life lowballs me on wagon

i was able to get well over twice what i was originally offered for a
car by letting it be clear that i wasn't eager in settling in a hurry
for less than what it was really worth, and by providing documentation
of its value (in the form of copies of ads for like vehicles in similar
condition sold locally, and KBB and Edmunds quotes).
once they realized i wasn't going to just snap at their first offer
as so many people do, they paid me more than i was asking for it.

politely let it be clear that you know what it's worth and can prove
it, and that that's all you'll settle for. it's the adjusters job to
keep as much of the company money as possible, and they routinely offer
lowball because some people are willing to take it just to be 'over with
it'.

cheers!
