Kaleb, Have you tried the Restore feature? You can tell the puter to go back a day, a week or a month to find a place in time when it worked -
Restore is located at "Start\all programs\accessories\system tools\system restore" It is reversible and instructions are straightforward - Might work. BTW, if you go with the new HD save the old one to use as a slave - mount in the cabinet with the new one or get a external enclosure to hold it - Mad Dog makes some good ones.
