If you don't game or use your box for Photoshop or a handful of other apps, there is no reason to use Windows. Linux (Kubuntu is great for starters), you would be surprised how easy it not to fork money over to m$. Just my 2 cents. I would not buy a single core machine these days. My home box, wifes laptop and work box are all Linux. My work laptop is m$ because I have to use flash and MS Project from time to time.
