Update. I went over to see they guy this morning and he put it up on the rack for me. He had driven the car and looked things over, noticing a number of fuel and vacuum irregularities, but heard the creaking and addressed none of them. He will not do work on a car with a cracked frame rail. His guess is a wreck at some point in the car's past, which I am sure is correct as the RF quarter panel is a slightly different color. The cracks are where the spring and the dampening piston/stabilizer [?] connect to the frame. In his opinion the car is not safe to drive and that needs to be fixed before he would address other issues. There is an automotive welding shop here in Jax that I will take it to when I can. No idea of how expensive that will be, but I have an unbelievable amount invested in the replacement engine, rebuilt transmission, new AC, new vacuum pump, new air flow actuators and a few other things, and the interior and exterior are both nice. I suspect it would have to be on the high side of $1000 for me to flinch too much. Lots cheaper than any other car I would like as much. I'll update you guys [and the occasional gal] as I learn more. Just got a call from the MN specialist who wants me to come over so he can show me where the frame is cracked. That I was not expecting nor am I pleased to hear that one. Any thoughts as to what if anything can be done? He wanted me to see it before we talked about it.
