This is partially resolved now. Sorry for the noise.

Done. It seems to be at random in what Z order objects in the same place
are displayed. This time I was lucky and could see how far I needed to
shorten the road. Problem solved - at least its symptoms.

Notice the "VMware"? This is the first application whose performance was
dramatically influenced to the negative within VMware. On a real machine
I cannot notice the problem anymore. Problem solved - for whatever reason.
