Good question. I couldn't find any, but let's hear what the experts say. :) The only way I know is selecting the area around the objects to select, then you can select one of them from the Selection section of the Properties dock. (IIRC this is a 0.13 addition.) Now that the parent element of a hovered/selected node is marked specially, it's a bit better and more predictable what will happen I think. Maybe a solution could be that the Move tool wouldn't grab whatever it likes, but only the objects that are already selected, if they happen to be unter the mouse cursor already.
