I have a P4 runnig @ 1.5 GHz, and I run Prime95 at priority = 8, my cpu temperature gets to 130~140 F (55~60 C), and my boards temp. gets to 120 F (50C), but I never noticed a system slow down, and the benchmark shows normally the same timings as those posted on mersenne.org. So, I suggest that your problem is maybe a service that is running, or a BIOS setup. You can try a clean boot (disable all services...) and then run the program, or if you do not have custom settings in your BIOS setup, you can try to reset your BIOS settings(Only do it if you are sure you want to do it!!!). If you have multiple operating systems, you can try running the program on all of them, on my PC, the program runs about 1.5 per cent faster under windows 98 than under windows XP pro.
