I forgot to mention that it's easy to avoid these issues via LD_PRELOAD.
I'm currently using this for Steam:

LD_PRELOAD='/$LIB/libgpg-error.so.0:/$LIB/libtinfo.so.5:/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6:/usr/$LIB/libxcb.so.1':$LD_PRELOAD
