Not likely, these are classic symptoms of a gpu lockup (including the
full lockup when trying to kill the dri client), and I doubt it's due to 
miscompilation. More likely an ordinary driver bug (and if somehow 
wine/WoW really do such odd things as querying not-yet-specified vertex 
programs and maybe even trying to execute them it might hit some corner 
cases no one ever tested).

I must have missed that rumour. If you're lucky you'll get a somewhat 
faster Xv support at least, if I or someone else finish up the code to 
actually support planar yuv data so the driver doesn't have to convert 
it to packed yuv first... Classic xv overlay is on its way out anyway it 
seems, textured video is all the rage nowadays (and I don't think you 
could combine that with the DCT/MC features of the hardware at least on 
radeons up to the r480 (x850), so you'd have to use shaders for that, I 
could be wrong though).
