Thanks Dan, Patch #1 works fine, and build completes successfully.
As an aside [and not really related here), I notice the configs/linux- files
pull in configs/linux file. This has hard coded -I & -L path to
'/usr/X11R6/'. Since I upgraded to git Xorg, I built into X11R7/ directory,
but still have symlinks X11R6->X11R7, so either will work for me.
I dunno if this could be a future issue with people without X11R6/.
