Are you relying on the playStopped message to manage your movies at all?
There appears to be a wonky behavior in MC with the playStopped message
getting sent when you set the fileName of a player, so in essence it can get
sent twice: once when the movie has stopped playing and once when you set
the fileName of your player.

I've mentioned this to Scott Raney and they're looking into it, but if this
affects you at all, one workaround is to test for the currentTime of your
player vs its duration. When the currentTime >= the duration, set the
fileName of the movie to empty (or whatever you want). Don't rely on the
playStopped message at all.

Other than that, maybe there's a memory thing going on -- perhaps liberal
use of "set the fileName of player MyPlayer to empty" between movies, after
button clicks to load new movies, etc might help.

Regards,

Scott
