I just wanted to publicly acknowledge a disservice I've done MetaCard
over the last year: I've thought to myself that it was memory-hungry
(on the Mac at least).

Then I got slapped in the face with how wrong I was today, so I
thought I'd throw out some numbers. These are all for the development
environment, I haven't tried to figure out how little the runtimes
can get:

MetaCard: 5000k recommended, but I generally start it with at least
12000k. This is where my idea came from in the first place. But then
I downloaded demos of Katabounga and iShell out of curiosity...but
more on them in a moment.

SuperCard (3.5): 6144 recommended, I checked and I've been giving it 15000k.

REALbasic (2.1): 5500, I've been giving it 8192k, so I've given it the least.

NOW:

Katabounga (3): 18000(!)k recommended, although its minimum is set to
a more reasonable 8192k.

iShell (2): 32768k--that's more memory than many iMacs shipped with!

So I'm happy with MetaCard only wanting 5000k, although I'm still
looking forward to Mac OS X and forgetting all this.

Regards,

Geoff
