Hello, MetaCarders.
Here's the scenario. I have a stack that displays an online copy of a
mathematics article. It uses a few characters from the extended character
set. The triple-dot ellipsis character is one of them. I've been doing my
development on a Mac and building standalones of intermediate versions on
the platform of deployment, i.e., Mac standalone built on the Mac and
Windows standalone built on a Windows computer. All the special characters
display properly in both the stack versions and the standalones.
Then at one point I had a lapse of judgement and did some upgrades on the
Windows computer and then brought the stack back to the Mac. [ :-) I
confess, I'm a Mac diehard.] The extended set characters still display
properly on the Mac in the stack version. However when I build the Mac
standalone, the characters no longer display properly. There is the
typical mismapping that one sees with word processing documents moved
between platforms.
Anyone ever had this problem? Is there an easy (or not) workaround? (Of
course I could dumb down the character set I use by replacing the ellipsis
by three periods but it would be nice to know how to work with the extended
character set.)
By the way, the article makes use of the symbol font, and the display of
symbols has been accurate throughout these moves between platforms.
