Sorry if I warped your original request for feedback on non-browser web apps! Apart from Java apps that launch from a browser, the only ones I have used are Napster (just to see what the buzz was about - I prefer to buy CD's and support musicians but that's another story).
On the plus side:
Provides a much richer user interface than a browser window; acts like a 'real' application as opposed to the browser "click and go" maze hierarchy. In a sense it is also better than a standard desktop app through its dynamic interface .i.e, it is always pulling realtime data.
