Since Bob Evans hasn't addressed that yet (and I'd love to see a definitive answer, too) just looking at the description of the "auction" (which is just a display of photos) it looks like maybe he had earlier misphrased things to make it look like he meant to give away free samples when what he was really trying to do was show the photos, and then just honored the buyer(s) who "bought" that way. Just a guess, of course.
