the newer controls, it may be an option, however.

[Frazer, Marc] Makino also has software for monitoring tool life,
and it is intended to watch tool life, and change the expired tool
automatically, and resume cutting. This requires a program format with
multiple safe start sections in the NC code to allow the software to work.

[Frazer, Marc] Jon's idea will work too, since you already know
something about the tool life. It is probably the quickest, most cost
effective way to solve your dilemma.
