Colin, We use Spectrum DNC. The software is good, but most any DNC software will do the trick. The reason we went with Spectrum was that they set up our hardware connection so that our machinists only have to run a laser-pen across a bar-code and the program is loaded into the control. Using the barcode method helps us to keep track of what is loaded and when it is loaded. So far it has worked pretty good.
One caveat though: If you choose to go with Spectrum, make sure that they finish ALL your machines at one time. Their service people are so busy in the field that there tends to be a re-learning curve whenever they come back to do more work. Hope that helps a bit, I know it took us over a year to decide on the right way to tackle this issue.
