All Autocad since R12 uses entities that Smartcam does not have a
way to calculate. No other software written prior to R12 would
translate the newer elements either. I have never had much luck
importing DWG into Smartcam. I save as R12 DXF's and have no problems.
Rhino will read any 2000 and up dwg file and can save back to R12 for
Smartcam or IGES the file back into Smartcam. Rhino is the lowest cost
link to keep Smartcam up to date in file translation as well as being
better than most of the high cost modelers. $495.00 and you can open
new files and feed them into Smartcam. I don't sell Rhino or any other
software FWIW. STL files can also be translated and sent to Smartcam
as well as 99% of the formats used today.
