I'm sure some of you were wondering if I really existed or whether I was just a product of John Gent's imagination.
Its been great to see the response on this mail list, and I thought the first thing I should share with you are my thoughts on the list itself.
I've seen a couple questions on what's going to happen to this list?

First of all, I would like to thank you for someone having the courage to take the ball and run with SmartCam. It is still the best cam package out there. I have had 3 sales people with different CAM packages trying to get me to use their product. When I show and ask them if their product can do this (project) this fast, their jaws drop. We have SC to the point that most programs only take 5 to 30 minutes to complete from start to finish, with 95% code accuracy. None of the other Cam packages could even come close. I am talking parts and fixturing or single projects. Also none of the sales people could guarantee the ability to customize the post processor to our specific needs in house. If something changes or we get a different machine I can usually modify a post processor for a particular machine and get code out with in an hour or so, but no longer than a whole day. Our company doesn't have newer machines (vintage late 80's to early 90's).
I am hoping that the maintenance will remain affordable and the upgrades will improve rather than degrade the product.
