Quite true. Yes, the case would be lined with acoustic foam to absorb 
the sound,
and your job would be to find foam that doesn't crumble into dust. They 
use this
stuff to line recording studios, so there must be some good quality 
stuff available
(that doesn't crumble within a few years). On the inside of the case it 
would be out
of the light and UV, so maybe it would last longer. Ozone sources might 
be the
other thing that would attack it.

A fanless machine will have to cool by convection, which means large
heat sinks and plenty of room for air to flow. It can be done. Did you
have any air filters on the machine with no dust? I don't have any fans
blowing air around my house, and yet there's still plenty of dust settling
on everything. Dust insulates, and fans keep (much) dust from settling, so
watch out for accumulation.

A few years ago I saw a site describing the cryogenic cooling system 
that some
fanatical overclocker had put together. Quite amusing the lengths that 
some people
will go to. I don't seem to have a link to it -- I may have gotten to it 
via Slashdot.
